Very long period- looking for reassurance!

I’m 50. In the past couple of years, my periods have shortened to anywhere between 21-24 days after all my life being 26. They have also become heavier and lots of clots (sorry).
im very concerned as I have had a period for almost 3 weeks straight. It began as normal, hit very heavy then tailpipes in its tracks for 2 days. What followed was 5-6 days of spotting, light pink to bright red and always there. Another few days of heaviness followed that and the past 4 days have been a constant light stream of red, every time I wipe. No tapering off or becoming more brown at the end as usual.
I have a scan booked for tomorrow. Had bloods done today.
looking for anyone who has had a similar situation. Very worried……

It does all sound very peri menopausal. My periods have gone crazy-a scan showed polyp and adenomyosis. Hope your scan shows something similarly benign .

Exactly the same happened to me when I was 49. My period ended up lasting about 3 months with varying degrees of heaviness. Sometimes spotting, then normalish, also had some days where I couldn’t leave the house as it was so heavy.
It was miserable and I felt drained.
Had blood tests and an internal scan, nothing found and everything went back to normal. Was told perimenopause was the culprit!
It is worrying though as you can’t help but think there’s something bad going on!
