Bitten yesterday afternoon. Very painful and weeping clear fluid. Perhaps infected?

Horse flies actually gnaw at you.

Did it feel like a sharp cut when it happened? Because that's how I always tell a Horse fly bite. They actually give a sharp cut through your skin rather than a sting or midge type bite. They take a while to clear up too.

Go to a pharmacy and ask for something for it.
