Bleeding on Zoladex

I started Zoladex injections on 11th of July. I am going to have a hysterectomy for severe endometriosis and PMDD and was told this should hopefully stop my periods and give me some relief from PMDD symptoms in the meantime as well as thinning the uterine lining in preparation for surgery. Consultant did say it might not suit me and I can come off them if that's the case.

My period came as expected, it was as heavy and painful as normal but only lasted for 7 days instead of my usual 10-14. This gave me some hope that Zoladex might stop my periods over time but three days after my period stopped I'm started bleeding again and am still bleeding two days later! I have also felt quite low in mood, anxious and irritable since I've been on it and that normally only happens in the week leading up to my period.

I haven't had any of the menopause symptoms I was told to expect (hot flushes, night sweats etc) from the Zoladex so is this a sign it won't work for me?

I am due to have the second injection next week and am seeing my consultant this week. The purpose of the appointment is so we can review whether the injections are suiting me. Should I persevere, have the second injection and hope things get better?

Anyone else have random bleeding on Zoladex? I also bleed continuously on the pill (was put on this by GP to try to help my horrendous periods before endo was diagnosed) so maybe it's just how my body reacts to hormones.

I had continual bleeding on the mini pill which just got heavier and heavier and then the same on mirena to the point both times I had one they came out inside huge clots after 3 months.

I was put on northisterone and took this daily. This stopped my periods as in I didn't bleed and I had my hysterectomy 5 weeks ago - life is great again!

I would suggest asking about different approaches to medication if this doesn't work for you.

I also continued to bleed heavily every month whilst having this type of medication (Decapeptyl), I was given HRT from the onset of the treatment but didn't experience any obvious menopausal symptoms.
I had a hysterectomy after using this for 3 rounds of injections.

Thanks both.

I have never been offered northisterone, will ask my Consultant about this when I see him tomorrow.

Its frustrating because they haven't been able to give me any kind of timescale for when my surgery will happen so I had been desperately hoping these injections would stop my periods in the meantime. I'm so tired of feeling physically and emotionally awful for 10-14 days of every month.

@neverbeenskiing watching with interest, how did you get on with the consultant?

I started Zoladex mid June, and norethisterone at the same time because I was bleeding so heavily. Norethisterone was three weeks and supposedly I wouldn't bleed after that stopped, but I did (badly) so they put me back on it. Going to try to speak to doc next week to discuss how to safely stop taking the norethisterone or even ask if I can stay on it as I'm currently not bleeding and want to keep it that way!

I also felt like the Zoladex wasn't working at first, but menopause-type symptoms are slowly creeping in for me (hot spells, hot at night) and all my oestrogen symptoms (sore boobs, bloating, moods etc) are going/gone so I think it just took a few weeks to work. Fingers crossed it does the trick for us both! I've had mine two months now - a one-month one at first and now I'm a month into my three-month one.

@neverbeenskiing like @itsgettingweird I also bled continuously on the mini pill and bled out the Mirena coil. Really hoping someone will let me stay on the norethisterione, but weirdly the advice I'm getting from every doc is I can't, when clearly some ladies can, so... 🤷🏻‍♀️

@Lula74 I'm hoping you see this!

What happened to you in the end?
I'm trialling Zoladex after having good results on Norethisterone.
I had no idea you could have both at the same time.
Thanks.
