very heavy bleeding 6 weeks after giving birth

Hello
really confused and just wondered if anyone had similar experiences.

I bled for first 3 weeks after delivery (normal) and then stopped for 2 weeks, but now have started 'a period' (?) and the bleeding is so heavy - changing pad every hour.
Went to A&E yesterday they gave me tablets to stop the bleeding (its slowed it down thats all) and the junior gynacologist that saw me looked and thought all looked ok.

Im breastfeeding so not sure I should be taking any tables even though they say ok to take these when b/f

any experiences of very heavy period after childbirth?
this is my second baby and didnt happen with first

will post in childbirth too

thankyou

Hi Vannah,

Had my first period with both at 8 weeks. All I can say is take care of yourself especially if you are prone to anaemia. You taking tranexamic acid ?

welcome to the club
periods back at 6 weeks both times though exclusively bf.

as 39ancounting said, take care of yourself and get on iron tablets pronto, 6.5 years later my iron is so low I have to have injections in my butt.

Look after yourself

My first period after giving birth was shocking. It came much later (like, a year and a bit later!) but oh my god. I had to set my alarm overnight to get up every hour and go to the bathroom to change MAXI +++ tampon and two MAXI +++++++ pads or I'd flood the bed. And I SILL managed to leak all over the towels I'd padded my bed with.

Dreadful.

39 i am taking those tablets though not very happy about it as Im breastfeeding, plus not sure how good it is to stop bleeding altogether.Wondering if i should just let nature take its course...

very reassuring to read this has happened to others
thankyou

Just know that one of the side effects is nausea and boy oh boy did i suffer with that. If your not happy taking them perhaps you could CLAIM this side effect anf get you GP to look at another alternative.

The coil has been pushed and pushed by GP and friends alike but not sure if you could have one so early on ?

Not for me personally as still suffer now.. Back on the pill....... at my age!
