Dh has now had his "snip" and I am due to have my mirena coil removed next week.
Anyone out there got any experience? what is the procedure?
What are the aftereffects.
By the way, due to pg's Bf and the coil I have not had a period for 5 years!!! How long if at all will I bleed afterwards

Also I don't know if it makes a difference but my strings are very short and can only be found by dr, and thats after a thorough examinaton!!!!!

When I had mine removed it was no big deal re the actual procedure a bit of a root around, a scratch and a tug etc, not pleasant of course but certainly not particularly painful. It took about 6 weeks before my period started and it took a few months to settle into a regular routine. They are now back bigger and badder than ever ... bast@@ds.

sherby · 19/01/2008 19:37

Well I don't know about the doctor removing it but I pulled my own out

whoops · 19/01/2008 19:39

When I had my coil taken out the threads were actually missing! (the coil was still there as I'd had a scan a couple of weeks earlier to check!)
It wasn't too painful but I would suggest taking paracetamol before you go!
I didn't bleed straight away after it was removed but did about a week later I think.

dosydot · 20/01/2008 09:21

Thanks for the replies, I think I will def go for the paracetamol.

Sherby, what were you thinking of?

ClareVoiant · 20/01/2008 09:32

the dr couldn't find mine, so had to go to a clinic, where the ladies were very nice and got it out in a few seconds. didn't hurt at all (not like having it put in!!!) can't remember how long it was til i had a period, but not that long, maybe a month max, but they were quite manageable (unlike before) until after I had ds, now they are back to normal.

saffy202 · 20/01/2008 10:28

They couldn't find mine either - the strings are very short too.

I had to go for a scan at the hospital to check it was still there and now I need to go back to the drs again but have been putting that off

blousy · 20/01/2008 11:19

I had mine removed recently. Had to go twice as first gp couldn't grab the strings. It didn't hurt a bit. My period started the next day! With knobs on.

DoubleBluff · 20/01/2008 11:39

Hurt a bit coming ou but not as much as going in. recommend pain illers too and take it easy rest of day, I felt a bit woozy.
Periods came back about 4 weeks later, but lighter and leess painful than before.
Also lost 4lbs in weight.

dosydot · 20/01/2008 13:36

I like the thought of weight loss unfortunately that can only be put down to choc and wine.

May be worth while taking so Ibuprofen before you go.

It is no big deal.

Cod, you've had your pouch of douglas raddled, so you are hard core

dosydot · 20/01/2008 13:45

Cod, Ikwym I would keep it in but unfortunately require repeat gynae treatments that mean it needs to come out and I can't be faffed having another seeing as we have no conception issues now.

anyone know if you need to be in any particular stage of your cycle for this? I'm sure I remember having to be on my period for putting it in... or was that just one of my very weird dreams?

rnmeeks · 27/03/2008 03:04

im going to get mine removed also tomorrow i was wondering what to expect,, i know everyone is diff. thnks ive had it for 6 mo now n cant take it anymore... too much problems

Alexa808 · 27/03/2008 11:37

I had stabbing pains with my mirena. It was like a knife being taken to my fanjo and perineum. Cramps nearly every day and pains when having intercourse.

I went to the doc to have it removed and I absolutely recommend taking a pain killer before you go in. Just to numb you, you know.

I didn't as I was told it wouldn't hurt, it would tickle... Cannot comprehend how the person saying this might think this was worth a giggle...

I felt the doc rummaging around while really keeping me wide open down there. Then a pulling sensation which wasn't a stab pain, but did hurt, very briefly and was fine 5 seconds later.

Pop that pill and good luck!!
