I have a call with the GP next week but I don’t really know what I’m expecting. I just don’t feel right and not sure what’s wrong.

I’m 42, 3 kids and work full time. I feel exhausted all the time but I would expect that. It’s just I am struggling to stay awake past 8 pm, which I’ve never really been like before. I’m cold all the time except for in the very recent heatwave. September to April, I need a blanket in the evening and my hands are freezing all the time. I seem to sweat excessively at random times - not like a hot flush or anything, I don’t feel hot. I feel cold most of the time - but just have these periods of being drenched in sweat. I have heart palpitations and a constant croaky voice that sounds like it needs clearing but there’s nothing to “clear”.

I was wondering if it’s early menopause but my periods are exactly the same so thinking could it be some other hormonal thing?

You can have normal periods and be in early menopause. Don’t be pushed into having blood tests for menopause as they’re unreliable- if you’re having symptoms of menopause, which it sounds like you are, they should offer HRT, without oestrogen related blood tests. But given you’re not sure what may be causing your issues I’d want some other bloods done - thyroid, iron, cortisol (must be a 9am blood test), general autoimmune screening etc.

Going out on a limb - and I’m not medically trained I just have a lot of these issues myself - I’d say early menopause and under active thyroid.

They'll almost certainly do a blood screen checking for various vitamin deficiencies.

I had low thyroxine, low D and low iron. That was all treated but I still felt crap. Then diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Now on HRT.

Can't tell you what's wrong, just that things often go tits up around this age!

Are you stretched to breaking point, stressed and generally feeling burnt out? If so, make serious changes now! Don't mess about. Put yourself first, get fitter and healthier, make you the priority in your life- better sleep, nutrition, head space... don't run yourself ragged!
