Bunion Operation

Anyone had one?
I’m 52 and my left bunion is getting huge and sometimes painful.
Is an operation worth it?

My friend had one 3 years ago and they properly mangled her foot, she hasn’t walked properly without pain since and is having another corrective op this week. Personally I wouldn’t .

I had both mine done last year, and apart from a month’s convalescence in each case, I’ve never felt better. My balance is fantastic! Intense pain for 36 hours, but I was religious about the post-operative exercises and foot care.

There are bunion operations and then there are bunion operations. Find out exactly which procedures are planned for your foot then ask her again. I had a Scarf and Akin Osteotomy and tendon cut. Recovery was lengthy and very painful (worse than a C-section recovery).
I have less pain day to day, but my mobility isn't really much better, so on the whole, it wasn't worth it.

A friend who needed a simpler surgery, recovered much quicker and had better long term results.

No idea what my op was called but it was transformational - had both feet done at the same time (self-employed and kids fairly grown up so it was the most manageable way) and now I can wear any shoes I want (I do put orthotics in everything I can though).
