So I had mine removed on Monday. I'm still in so much pain. Paracetamol isn't cutting it.

Does anyone know anything topical I can put on the area. My mum suggested Vaseline but I don't want to put anything on I shoulndt. I was thinking anesol.

The Dr said just salt baths but that's not easing any pain.

Also has anyone gone through this. How long before it stops hurting all the frigging time. I really starting to regret having it done but at the same time I needed them off of I was ever going to date again.

Sudocreme might help, or any baby nappy rash creams?

Mosaic123 · 27/07/2022 15:44

A bag of frozen peas to sit on (wrapped)?

BounceyBumblebee · 27/07/2022 19:02

I have been soaking in cold water.

I tooks some ibroprophine today which the Dr said to try not to as it slows healing. But I feel a million times better. I'd rather slow the healing a bit and not be in so much pain.

If anyone was thinking of having this done, my advice would be, you have to really really want it, cause it's is not nice at all. It's much worse than I thought it would be. Much worse than epesiotomy and post labour stitches.

Ask the chemist for some anaesthetic gel. Instillagel or similar.

SadFace2 · 27/07/2022 23:53

Mine took 9 weeks for the wound to fully close and everything to settle down.

Hi OP I have every sympathy, I had this done around 15 years ago and can say hand on heart if I had known then how painful it would be afterwards, there’s no way I’d have had it done.

I’m wracking my brain trying to think what I put on it at the time - have a feeling it was lidocaine ointment - and I just took lots of warm baths. I also kept using stool softener medication for a while just to help avoid reopening the wounds as they healed. Hth

Hello! I had mine removed last Monday too so currently a week in to recovery.
I've not really had any pain, I was told to ice first 2 days then move onto sitz baths going forward.
My issue is I've had what looks similar to a prolapsed internal hem since I had the skin tag Lasered off. My surgeon assures me it will just be swelling. I had two stitches which I think have now come out. Didn't have much bleeding but it's weeping. There's still no pain, unusual heat or bad smell but I'm now paranoid it's infected! Hoping it's just part of the healing process. Will give it a few more days until I contact my surgeon again!
Hope you are feeling better!

Hi OP, did you get something to resolve the pain with this in the end? Also how long did it take to heal? I’m 8 days in and the pain is excruciating.

Mynewnameis · 04/05/2024 09:16

@SixtiesSass I had mine done about 11 data ago. Still weeping and bleeding but no pain really.
Must have been lucky.
Do you think it could be infected?

I went back yesterday to have it checked and no infection, healing well. The nurse said the pain following is normal and unsure how long it will take to heal. Said it’s a small cut so can’t imagine what it would be like if any bigger. I’m only in horrific pain following a bm. I’ve been given jelonet dressings, instillagel and told to get lidocaine gel too. Not sure what will help unless something can numb the inside of me until I heal. Glad you’re not in pain, I wouldn’t wish this on anyone.

Mynewnameis · 04/05/2024 10:13

@SixtiesSass oh that's good you had it checked. I did feel for the people on my ward having haemorrhoids op. The surgeon told them it would be very painful (but worth it).
So glad mine is gone it was troublesome.

AllThePotatoesAreSinging · 04/05/2024 10:18

Honestly I would get a second opinion! I had one removed a few years ago (it was frozen off though) and while it hurt like a MF during the actual freeze it was fine within 48 hours.

That said, there are so many nerve endings there that I’m not surprised you are in pain. Hope it drastically improves soon x

EDIT just seen this is a zombie thread so hopefully OP has recovered by now 🤦‍♀️

Can you ask Dr for stronger painkillers?
May be worth emailing Asda pharmacy, they have on call person who can sign off some prescriptions.
If ibuprofens work for you, go for it.
I had them post csection and healed quickly, no one told me to stop or that they will slow things down. Pain is horrible for mwntal health.
You can mix them with paracetamol for better coverage.
Like 2x ib in the morning, 4h later 2 par, 4h later 2 ib etc. As long as you don't go over daily dose for each.

EatCrow · 04/05/2024 11:09

Apologies if this is an indelicate question but how do you heal when you have to keep going to the toilet? Doesn’t it re-open any healing. I have an anal fissure and that’s bloody excruciating when something set it off.

MumOf12025 · 21/07/2025 19:31

had mine done in March, was meant to have botox injections to help heal fissure i had for almost 2 years.. they didnt do botox as they said fissure was healing but removed a big skin tag.. its now July and i still have pain after each bowel movement, it looks exactly the same, if anything it looks worse. If i had known the recovery was going to be this bad i would never of got it done.

Hi @SixtiesSass im having this op soon. Was wondering if you wouldn’t mind sharing what your full recovery was like and how long it was before you could return to your normal activities?
