Stomach bug - incubation period?

I met with a friend for a while on Tuesday and again on Wednesday morning. He said he was sick overnight on Tuesday. He tested at home for covid but he said it wasn't covid. He said it was something he ate or a stomach bug.

All of his close contacts came down with the same thing within a matter of days - his parents, any of his siblings that they visited and their families, me and I don't know who else.

My symptoms started on Thursday evening with nausea. I went straight to bed with a bucket just in case. Within 2 hours of the nausea I was vomiting.

I don't know what days we're my exposure. I reckon it was Tuesday before he became ill because apparently one is most infectious for illnesses before they show symptoms. So would that make it a 48 hour incubation? It was for me anyways. His parents took longer to show symptoms.

As soon as I got sick, I isolated in my room and avoided my family. I only got up at night time when I felt 'ok' and for a drink of water and medicine. I kept the windows open for ventilation. I carried out appropriate hygiene at all times. I never took my hands to my mouth and I used hand sanitiser and alcohol sanitisating wipes in the bathroom. I isolated in my room all day yesterday in case I was still infectious.

It's been approximately 39 hours since the onset of my symptoms.
I feel better today.

My question.

Do you think my family has been spared this horrible and hideous stomach bug? I don't want to make them ill.

Why did he come to meet you Wednesday if he had been sick overnight? What is it with all the threads with people going out while they are actively ill with D&V Confused

Anyway the only way to catch these bugs is by ingesting particles, it's only airborne at the moment of vomit. So if you've been ultra careful at home and the rest of your home have been able to use a different bathroom to you then hopefully no one else will catch it. You'll need to clean everywhere you've been ill with an appropriate cleaner, bleach solution or such not anti bac.

The only way it's contagious before symptoms is through stool I believe so that would be caused by poor hand washing most likely.

I suppose the D&V would have stopped at that point so he probably thought he was well enough. He tested for covid and because that was negative he probably thought everything else was fair game against isolation. IMO I think he should have isolated for 24 hours.
I was chatting to him on the phone yesterday and he said he still wasn't right with his tummy sore. I think he rushed into eating solids too quickly and he should have isolated with fluids.

That's how I treated my dose anyways. Isolating with fluids.

Unfortunately, there's only one bathroom in the house. I stayed in my room for hours on Thursday evening. I thought I felt well and I went to the kitchen for a bottle of water. Unfortunately movement started the worst episode ever and I was caught of guard and had to rush to the toilet. My bum was only half way to sitting on the toilet with more vomiting happened. Thank god there was a bucket there. There was an episode of D&V in the bathroom.

The window was open for ventilation. I closed the toilet lid before flushing too.
I cleaned the toilet have use and poured bleach into the bucket and put a lid on it.

It's been 49 hours since the onset of my symptoms.

So far so good, my family are not ill. I don't want them to get sick.

If you're all sharing a bathroom it will really come down to how thoroughly you have cleaned and tried to stay on top of that, particles can land on so many surfaces, after around 72 hours I would start to feel a bit more reassured. Is there anyone who can do a deep clean for you if you're not up to it?

Even things like toothbrushes if they are nearby should be sterilised/thrown.

It's been 72 hours since the onset of my symptoms that have all cleared up now thank goodness.

It's approximately 70 hours since I vomited in the bathroom. I was sitting on the toilet with a basin in my lap.

I suspect what I had was norovirus. One of my friends close contacts became sick and had to go to hospital with being sick. They are saying its food poisoning. Food poisoning isn't contagious. The fact is this tummy bug has passed around to my friends family and contacts.

I am really hoping this dose stops at me with regards to my family.

I just read online that alcohol doesn't kill the norovirus which I suspect I had it. My friend and his family are saying its food poisoning but that's impossible because we didn't eat together.

Do you think my family are OK from this dose? Surely if their exposure was on Thursday night or even Friday from contact, they would probably start feeling ill yesterday or today.

I don't want to make my family sick.

It's was a vicious and hideous sickness.
