Front of neck pain

About 2/3wks ago I was sitting reading a book and out of nowhere this tightening sensation across the front of my neck began. I suffer from GERD and so thought it was a new reflux symptom, it became painful and was actually sore to touch my windpipe area, it lasted for 2 days and thankfully went away. About a week later it came back and hasn't left since and now it's really getting to me. It's localised to directly left of my windpipe. It's constantly dull aching if I stay still and gets worse if I move my head or stretch my neck in anyway, I can feel it tightening when I swallow or yawn (it's absolutely not my throat) and it hurts to touch on the outside.

I rang the GP and explained myself. She asked about my periods which I thought was strange but told her that yes I had been having some period problems the last few months. She said she thought it was thyroid related and wanted me to have a blood test done, the earliest appointment they have for that is 15th August! I was also asked to have my blood pressure done which came bk slightly elevated 127/77.

Has anyone else ever had anything that sounds like this? And if so how did it resolve? The idea of having to take painkillers every day to manage this pain for 3 more weeks until I can even get a test is hell. Painkillers take the edge off it.

Has she suggested an ultrasound to check for thyroid nodules? Bloods wont show these and they would need investigating.
I had a thyroid nodule removed and an ultrasound was needed to diagnose this. I was diagnosed with hashimotos thyroiditis at the same time.

No she hasnt suggested that but if my blood tests comes back fine I will ask for an ultrasound.
Can I ask what prompted you to get the ultrasound, were you having the same symptoms I'm having? I don't think I can feel any lumps but it's hard to tell with it being so near the "adam's apple" area and feeling the structure of my windpipe through my neck I don't know what's normal bumps/lumps and what shouldn't be there. No one has saw or examined my neck. I was asked to have the BP done at the chemist and ring the GP back with the results.
