Is this a normal stomach bug?

On Monday I felt absolutely fine in the morning and then all of sudden at lunchtime I developed diarrhoea out of nowhere. Cue several trips to the loo and then it had settled a bit by evening. Felt rough but could just about cope. Only ate toast and banana. Yesterday morning I thought I was better but then ate my usual breakfast (muesli) and my stomach went off on one again. Few trips to the loo and then I went back to just eating toast and it seemed to settle down by evening. Was quite tired by this point. Then this morning I had toast for breakfast to be on the safe side and it still made my stomach awful.

Because I've been trying to eat small portions of bland food and keep having this morning diarrhoea I'm now weak, light headed and exhausted. I've already lost weight. My stomach is gurgling and painful. I've got dioralyte which is helping a bit but that's it really. I don't normally get diarrhoea like this and I have no idea what caused it. At first I thought maybe the heat but now I'm wondering if I ate something dodgey. I'm so wiped out!

Have you done a Covid test? Diarrhoea was the first and (apart from tiredness and weakness) most enduring symptom of Covid that I had.

ILoveAllRainbowsx · 20/07/2022 14:53

It could be covid. Have a Google some people just have those symptoms.

Peachypips78 · 20/07/2022 14:59

Covid. I have it now and mine started with sudden diarrhoea that lasted 48 hrs. Then exhaustion and sore throat after this was over.

Oh really? How odd. I'll see if I can get hold of a test.

@CreatingHavoc Hey, how did you get on?

I’ve had diarrhoea in the morning the last two mornings. Really bad, just water type of diarrhoea (sorry for the visuals). Also nausea for the last three days.

I’ve done a covid test but was negative

did you find out the cause of it? Hope you’re feeling better now!

Had a very horrible stomach bug last week. As you describe - initial symptoms ended quickly but felt nauseous, very light headed and dizzy and exhausted for a week. I was completely off food so wasn’t sure if the light headed was partly due to how little I ate for most of the week. Toddler also caught it so I know it was a bug (as we hadn’t eaten anything the same) and neighbours had it before us. There’s definitely gastric bugs going around!

Yes, DH had it earlier in the week and still not 100%. I came down with it in the night, supposed to be packing for holiday tomorrow too. How long did it last for you?

I felt mostly better after about a week but my stomach is still not quite right. I did a stool sample as I was a bit worried but it's not come back yet. It seems I can no longer eat fatty food without it giving me a dodgy stomach!
