I am the Queen of tonsillitis. Things I do that helps ( disclaimer, not a medical professional). Gargle warm salty water ( it has numbing and healing properties). Gargling with soluble aspirin. Gargling with diluted TCP. Drinking plenty of iced water and eating regularly ( I like toast , it seems to scrape the gunge off 🤮). Hope you feel better soon , it is bloody rubbish.

Thanks it's not very nice. Understatement,
I've got 80 tablets of antibiotics so I'm guessing she took me seriously!
Currently got lozenges, paracetamol, ibuprofen, icy drinks and AB's.
She did say try warm drinks they are easier to swallow
Hope everyone gets well soon!

Thanks, OP. I've started on the ABs tonight. If I could have my tonsils removed, I would! The last few days have been a shit show. Hope you're okay x

Difflam spray. You can buy it over the counter at a pharmacy. It's a pain killing spray. So much easier to swallow the antibiotics after a bit of difflam!

I've just had this. I thought it looked like strep but could only get a telephone consultation and send the photo in, doctor just said they would "treat it as tonsillitis" and put my on ABs. Felt awful for a few days, deep bone aches, fatigue, fever, cold shakes at night, headache etc.

Rina66 · 19/07/2022 23:49

Be careful it's not quinsy, I've just had this and needed IV antibiotics in hospital - the pain was awful, one side, throat was closing, earache on the same side and I really struggled to open my mouth. I'm still taking liquid antibiotics.

blitzen · 20/07/2022 09:06

Has anyone ever had a quinsy? I'm seeing my doc today as I've woken up feeling ill and my throat is worse on one side. I'm terrified it could be that.
