What on earth is going on with DD - can't help but feel really worried (long sorry)

I posted last night about DD2 (2.1 years) being ill. Basic run down is this:

Friday - temps up to 102. It rises and falls and she seems well in herself. At 10pm she complains of a sore neck but is otherwise responsive and not too unwell.

Sat & Sun - miserable.

Monday - still having temps but happy as larry

Tuesday - temp goes down to 98 - 100. She complains of a headache and we have a disrupted night. Daytime sleep of 3 hours (she normally has 90 mins and has never slept so long in the day).

Wednsday - I took her to the GP who looked at ears, throat and chest and said they were all clear and that it was a virus and we're sent on our way. She's not really herself but did some gentle craft activities and played quite happily with her sister. Daytime sleep of 2 hours (woken up by me). Complains periodically of a headache.

Wednesday night - refuses to settle and repeatedly complains of a headache (Note: no other meningitic symptoms). Sleeps on and off for max 90 mins at a time and each time wakes screaming her head off and complaining of a bumped head. I called NHS direct and took her to the GP our of hours surgery 3am and again I was told it was a virus.

Thursday - she's been quite chirpy all day but when I put her down for a rest at lunch, bearing in mind that she's had hardly any sleep, she only slept for an hour before waking screaming and saying she has a headache. This was only an hour after I gave her a healthy dose of nurofen.

I took her back to the GP this afternoon and I was told that despite two other doctors checking her ears and saying they're fine he now says that she's got sore ears. Cue - bright yellow banana flavoured anti-b's that she can't stand and refuses to take.

I just don't know what it is - she seems fine when standing up and playing and only makes occasional referneces to a headache. Once she's in bed and lying down she's in a terrible state.

I'm giving her alternated doses of calpol and nurofen.

I'm totally at my wits end.

Does anyone have any advice or idea of what's going on with my little girl?

Not sure, but I know that pain from ear infections is much worse when lying down, so personally I would persevere with the anti-bs.

Have you tried letting her sleep propped up? The fact that she is ok-ish in the day & your docs have ruled out anything serious would make me maybe think ear infection/ blocked sinuses as they blooming hurt when lying down.

Are you managing to get any antibiotic into her? If the medicine is particularly vile we use the syringe and pop in down the side of the cheek (just seem to swallow medicine better that way) in clear sight of the choc buttons they are going to get as a reward - big fan of bribery

Hope she's on the mend soon.

I couldn't offer any help with the medicine side of things as my DD also refuses to take ANY medicine..I feel your pain

if she has some pressure in her ears or sinus this could cause a headache or strange feeling in her head.
How about getting her some specialist head massage .....cranio i think they call it?
