Your experience of appendicitis

So I'm just freaking out, hopefully unnecessarily.
I was hoping that someone might be able to share their experience of appendicitis with me as I'm a bit worried that I may be developing it. The last few days, I would say last three or so days, my body has been really achy for no obvious reason. When I say my body I really mean my whole body. It feels like I've done a massive workout, which I definitely haven't. I felt it a lot in my abdominal and also my chest. My tummy feels a bit tense when I cough. So just yet, the general achiness is if I've done a big workout. I don't feel unwell. I feel quite bloated but other than that I feel fine.

I am freaking out a bit though because the discomfort seems to be settling above my right hip inside my abdominal if that makes sense. I don't feel like I need to go to the doctors I'm not in excruciating pain, but it's just so random and I'm worried that something might be going on?

In my experience it was excruciatingly painful, like a strong period cramp that never let go and just got steadily more painful over several hours till I went to A&E.

Have you done a covid test?

iklboo · 12/07/2022 18:05

My whole body wasn't achey or chest issues. The pain started around my belly button area first, then got worse as it moved to the appendix area. It was a griping pain rather than constant. I couldn't eat, my poo was like rabbit droppings. I had a slight temperature.

When the doc pressed the area & let go I almost fell off the table the pain was that bad. It was only very, very slightly eased by bringing my knee up while I was lying flat.

Ouch that sounds awful! How long would you say it too. Your symptoms to get that bad?

I haven't done a Covid test! I feel generally well, just bloated and achy!

Mine was from slight discomfort could do with the toilet but actually that queue is huge I'll drive home at 5pm to rolling on the floor like I was in labour type waves of pain by 9pm. Stupidly sent DH to Asda for Gaviscon assuming indigestion before giving in and phoning 111 at around 10.30.

Like the pp knee up while lying flat was only relief and it hurt worse being bounced around/steps than going around corners in the car.

All the pain was abdominal, not chest and definitely letting go was the worst.

I am currently in hospital, having had my appendix removed today. The pain began on Sunday night at 9:30 pm and didn’t stop - it was as painful as labour and excruciating pain when the doctors pushed down on it! I made an appointment with the doctor first and she sent me to hospital where I had a CT scan yesterday and operation this morning.

If you’ve got a lft it’d be a good idea to rule out covid. My main symptom was aches when I had covid (likely to be Omega at the time I got sick). Also could you be pregnant? That’s another thing that it might be good to rule out.
apendixes can grumble and take a while for an infection to become serious. But there are lots of things that cause bloat and tummy pain. Some are very serious, (appendicitis, acute ovary issue like a burst cyst or a twisted ovary) most aren’t (constipation, ovulation, early pregnancy, indigestion).
What’s your history like on this kind of worry OP? Are you normally quite anxious about health things OP or do you never ask for help/think about it until you’re really very ill?

GrumpyPanda · 12/07/2022 18:24

Any nausea? That's what I recall more than any abdominal pain. Also I believe a frequent symptom.

Hurstlandshome · 12/07/2022 18:32

Completely blocked up, vomiting and intense abdominal pain. Started as mild abdominal discomfort and within 5/6 hours was in A&E.

MrsNyborg · 12/07/2022 18:51

The onset was pretty quick for me. It was a few years ago but I remember waking up feeling really bloated and with dull stomach cramps. These cramps became unbearable and I felt really unwell. I was admitted to hospital in the early evening with suspected appendicitis. Appendix was removed overnight!

Do you feel nauseous etc., with the bloating and aching as well? Or could it be a tummy bug or something? Just wondering with the body aches.

Oh god it sounds awful! My mum had appendicitis and she's pretty confident I don't have it (🙈), but it's just worrying me it being in the right hand side!

Like I said I started feeling super achy on Sunday. Mainly around the chest and tummy. I've been struggling going to the toilet (not uncommon for me as I have Ibs flare ups 😳) but this doesn't normally leave me feeling like this! Felt fine in myself, just bloated and a bit sicky.

I've been under a lot of stress recently, wondering if it might just be something viral 🤷🏼‍♀️

My daughter had stomach pains for over a few day, which got progressively worse, we visited the Dr's to be advised it was period pain. She came to me in the night, sweating and looking like death! I rushed her staring into A & E, they were fab, her appendix burst! She has an almighty scar, from naval to pubic bone. They tried keyhole but was so bad they couldn't do it. She was 19yrs, worse experience of my life and of course hers too. Trust your instincts.

CottonSock · 12/07/2022 19:14

Nope didn't feel like that.

hedgehogger1 · 12/07/2022 19:24

A doctor told me to test for appendicitis lie flat on your back and then try and lift your right leg up straight. It will hurt a lot.

twordle · 12/07/2022 19:26

Do a covid test. Just been in a&e with DD and similar symptoms after GP thought it was appendix. Turns out covid is presenting like this now.. she has covid!
