Herpes outbreaks! 😟

I'm at my wits end...for the last few years I've suffered from frequent herpes outbreaks on my right bum cheek. As one lot of sores start to dry up another lot of painful sores appear. I've tried lysine tablets and topical creams from Boots but nothing works. I finally plucked up courage to do an e-consult with the Doctors (sent photos), I'm too embarrassed to go in person. I had a prescription for a very small tube of acyclovir 5% - it only lasted me a week and didn't really help. Any suggestions on what I can take or do to help resolve my problem. Thank you xxx

I think you’ll have to go to the doctors in person, if there’s a sexual health clinic near you that might make you feel more at ease. If you are sure it’s herpes (and the doctor will be able to confirm) it sounds like you need to take acyclovir tablets regularly, that’s what got things under control for me. Please don’t feel ashamed, herpes is something anyone can have and doesn’t have any reflection on your character or anything else. I know how painful it can be and I really hope you get it sorted soon!

Thank you for replying... I'm going to make an appointment with my GP. I need to 'get over' being embarrassed/ashamed and sort this out. I'm glad you were able to get your outbreaks under control xxx

Ask for valacyclovir, I have exactly the same location and have been taking them for years. Outbreaks have reduced to almost zero.

What is more embarrassing, not being able to sit or asking a dr for some medication? You could probs do it via a phone consultation. Just tell dr how frequent and painful they are and you should get your prescription.

The other alternative is an online pharmacy, you can get a prescription and buy the drugs, but you'll have to keep paying through the nose. It really is just a skin rash, don't be embarrassed, millions of us have the virus.

Thank you for your advice. I've got a doctors appointment in a few weeks x
