Cat bite?

Got bitten by my cat yesterday putting her into her cat basket for her annual vaccination trip. I got a tetanus jab and co-amoxiclav (500/125 - quite high strength). Some of the redness and some swelling initially abated but this morning it's still swollen red and using the hand is painful as I suppose it will be. I know cat bites can be nasty. Can I be reassured that the antibiotics will do their job in time and stop worrying? Did anyone get bitten, got antibiotics and still had to escalate treatment? A friend of mine told me this morning she knew someone that had to go into hospital despite early treat with oral antibiotics. Just a bit of a worry.

Sorry to hear about the bite. Not had experience of a cat bite but a Pharmacist might be able to advise about how long the antibiotics take to work and how it's looking. You did the right thing getting it treated.

Agree you did the right thing - I’d get a second opinion from pharmacist as recommended. My daughter was taken into hospital and given a general anaesthetic to get her cat bite cleaned out the day after being bitten, they can turn nasty with sepsis (she wasn’t given antibiotics). Sorry this story isn’t more hopeful x

Meant to say - she wasn’t given antibiotics the first time she was seen as we took her to a minor injuries unit and there was no doctor. The doctor phoned back at 11pm that night to bring her in the next morning, and I think she had antibiotics after that. Hope it’s getting better!
