Sore throat/no voice / rash

Posting here as I cannot currently get a go appointment (I'm trying). Do I need to push or could it be viral.

I will start by saying yes I have done a covid test.

Since last Tuesday I have woke up with an awful sore throat and no voice, voice does come back but not as normal throughout the day.

I'm struggling with walking (not overly but enough) as my throat is so sore and I don't feel like o can breathe properly (have asthma but this is different, blocked with mucus and a really heavy mucus cough).

The last two days I also have a red (sometimes itchy) rash covering my neck.

There seems to be so much going on I'm leaning more towards viral anyway, but do I need to push more for an appointment?

I'm fed up with it now. Oh and in the last hour, my left (same side my throat is worst) ear now feels blocked!

I know no one here can actually help, but I'm feeling sorry for myself.

Oh I forgot the streaming eyes too (I'm already on strong antihistamines for hay fever).

I know you’ve done a test, but keep doing one daily as they are very typical covid symptoms and the rash is too. DH took 5 days to test positive.

RedCardigan · 06/07/2022 23:35

Can you buy a pulse oximeter to come tomorrow? If you’re concerned about your breathing overnight you can call 111, especially with a background of asthma and infection whatever it is. Or call your GP again tomorrow morning if you’re ok overnight.

I've done tests every other day since Tuesday (had a few and I was at a big concert just before I got ill).

I have one and used it. I'm not worried on oxygen levels. I think it's just the blocked throat making me struggle when walking.

Is your epiglottis swollen? The dangly bit above your tongue? If it is and you feel like you can't breathe properly it is a medical emergency.

It doesn't look swollen no. But the pain etc eases when I drink (so bad in the morning, have water and eases the more I have). I don't think it is that but will check in the morning.

That pain is more on the left, so I really don't think it'll be that.

Sounds silly but do you test your throat and nose? Even if it says nose only I still do my throat. Both times I've had covid I've only ever gotten a positive from nose and throat. If I done my nose I got a negative

Yep I test both. I had covid in March and have always tested both. The throat test is so much harder when your throat is so sore though 😭

That's good. Pain on one side and it getting better with drinking suggests its not epiglottitis. Just wanted to check as you said it was a blocked throat feeling.

Likely to be viral. Most people I know with covid recently didn't test positive until they started feeling better! You could always see if you can get a telephone appointment though if you're worried. They're unlikely to want to see you in person as it sounds as though it could be covid.

I did think covid especially with the big event. I will try for an appointment tomorrow (my gp still only has phone appointments anyway) it's just the pain that's really getting to me and the fact I cannot talk properly! Tomorrow will be day 10 of pain and dodgy voice 😭

I hope you get better soon. I also feel worse than when I had covid, the only thing that effected me with covid was the dizziness. But I'd take that over the pain I'm having now.

I've been testing every other day over a week and it's not covid (or not showing on tests I don't know).

Laryngitis? I get like this when I've had it.

SeaToSki · 07/07/2022 00:16

Do you have strawberry tongue? Google it. If you do, its likely bacterial tonsillitis or similar and you should go to a GP. In either case, if you think you are struggling to swallow, see a GP as you are a choking risk.

TheWristBoundLatexBitch · 07/07/2022 07:16

For the first time in 10 days I have woke up with a voice and no sore throat.

I think I'm going to post here every time I'm ill. I am still not 100% better, but I'm better than I have been.
