Are free hearing tests just a selling exercise

I decided to ask GP for audiology referral as am finding it harder and harder to hear people in crowded environments - they did refer me but waits is months. But hearing aid clinics offer free hearing tests and I just wondered whether this is a hard sell/ swizz or whether they will be honest if you don't need anything

I had one in February. 30% hearing loss. Told it was normal for my age and that I didn't need a hearing aid. Thoroughly professional and not a whiff of a hard sell.
I was quite pleased with it actually because they acknowledged I was having problems and suggested it was my sinuses (which the dentist had said in January about my toothache) so it was good to have more ammo to go back to GP to get nose spray.

I had a free test at Boots. It was fine.

I've found it harder to hear people talking in certain situations since having had awful ear problems with Covid.

They confirmed I have slight hearing loss (bloody Covid 🙁) but not enough to need intervention.

They said it was good to have a record of where I'm at right now so any changes can be monitored. There was no hard sell of anything.
