Eczema/menopause/dry skin

Does anyone have any insight to share?

The skin on my hands is just getting drier and drier. It's beginning to peel- always has on and off- but it's getting worse. It's very thin, creased, pink looking in places- what I associate with children's eczema.

I use barely any products, and nothing that's changed. I don't use shampoo or body wash.

I avoid hand gel. I use hand cream, but don't do the whole cream and gloves at night stuff.

I'm at the menopause which may be affecting it. I've got HRT patches and am about to increase the dose.

Could it be fungal? Do I just have to use more handcream and barrier cream?

Thank you!

My skin is also doing this. I can't take HRT. I am putting a shower cap on and putting oil in the bath and soaking my skin and that is helping. Your skin definitely loses its elasticity more - v frustrating!

I use Aveeno plus the oil baths. But in between that it's still getting v dry on my hands. Make sure you're drinking enough too! Sorry I can't be more helpful!

It's reassuring to know it's not just me, I suppose! I drink like a fish- in a good way!

I guess this goes hand in hand with the slowing down of my bowel Confused gosh ageing is great! I'm totally unfazed by the wrinkles, but the practical issues are Shock

It's the sleep issues that bother me grrr

Have you tried prunes for the bowel? Or even prune juice if you can't stomach prunes? It does make you feel old doesn't it!

I have always had very dry sensitive skin. Aveeno all over really helps. Also La Roche Posay Baume Cicaplaste. I usually use L'Occitaine Shea Butter handcream. What I wash my hands with does make a difference.

A strong coffee sorts me out, 2sugars, and I eat plenty of fruit and veg. It's just the general direction of travel that's come to my attention.

It looks as though I need to get some aveeno when I've finished my current collection of hand creams.

I've got lots of body butters. I'll work my way through them I suppose.

To be fair, it's not my body, just my hands and feet. Though my back has been itchy, now I think about it. Oh joy.

I don't feel old enough! I'm 53. It feels a bit sudden.

Reading glasses, bowels, general dryness. Confused

What next!

They should give us a menopause box like the ones we used to get when we had a baby. They can cram it with prunes, scratchers, body oil, sleeping pills, reading glasses and lube!

I have just added collagen complex pills to my daily vitamins/ omega3/ glucosamine additives. My eczema has been horrible the last year, but strangely my asthma has been better.
anyway, Collagen, Diprobase, Lavender gel for itchy areas. Doing better.

picklemewalnuts · 03/07/2022 21:33

Great idea, @2SugarsLoadsaMilk ! A bounty box to prepare for later life...
Don't forget the Tena pads and vitamins!

Thanks Weird, I've been forgetting to take my collagen, but you're right it should help.

2Sugars, we'll be needing glucosamine and collagen in our Bounty box!

Although my skin has changed as I approach menopause, I find my trusty Neutrogena unscented hand cream and La Roche Possy stuff still works pretty well.

Get Balneum on prescription.
