How bad is the treatment for stomach ulcers?

I've just picked up a 7 day prescription for two antibiotics at highest dose possible, plus the PPI. I already struggled with nausea just on the PPI, and the side effects say nausea and vomiting is common for one of the antibiotics. I'm terrified of being sick at work (or at all really). Anyone got any reassuring stories of it not being that bad?

Or rather should I just book some time off work?

No problems here with treatment

Ok thanks! I'm probably worrying unnecessarily, which doesn't help the situation!

It varies OP. Some people suffer pretty grim diarrhoea from the high dose ABs wiping out all their “good” bacteria as well as the Helicobacter one that’s causing the ulceration.
You can try dosing yourself with a live active yogurt an hour or two after each AB dose, to try and repopulate some nice lactobacilli and reduce the impact. But I wouldn’t stray too far from a loo the first few days, til you see how it goes!

It’s better than emergency surgery for a perforated ulcer!

I had no side effects at all!

Yeah the problem is in order to get to the toilets in the office, I have to walk right across the other side past the senior offices and through to the elevator banks, just no way I could make it if there's a problem. Oh well, fingers crossed!

I just recommended Stugeron (otc) or Cyclizine (needs prescription) on another thread for nausea caused by antibiotics. I take a PPI all the time and my doctor is fine with me combining all 3 if I have to take antibiotics - probably best to check though.
