How many poos a day does your 3 yr old do? (and how many is too many?)

DS (3.6) has done about 4/5 poos today. He always does at least 2 a day but recently its been 4 or 5.

Admitedly he does eat a lot (including a lot of fruit) but at what point do you start to wonder if its OK to poo that often?

i am thiking the exact same thing about my 2yr3mth old.. some days he does 5 poos.. all very loose & very fowl smelling.... (even if he dosent eat alot)is this normal?? hopefully others will be able to enlighten us??

nobodysfool · 15/01/2008 20:53

Ds is 31 months and has one a day-he eats very well including lots of fruit.

My DD (3.3) always has 1 a day and has done pretty much since she started solids, it usually consists of 2 huge logs though (sorry tmi!). I've no idea what is 'normal'.

paperchain · 15/01/2008 20:56

I have 2 DS. One (5.5) who has a bowl abnormality - it is not unusal for him to poo every time he wees. DS2 is 3.5 - his poos are erratic. Sometimes once per day. Some times 4 times per day. Depeneds entirely on diet.

I wouldnt worry unless it is watery (diarrhoea) or he has pain. our bowel movemnts are all different and what is 'normal' for one, will not be normal for another.

Said to reasure, I hope

see.. i dont get logs... just cow pat???

BettySpaghetti · 15/01/2008 21:01

Thanks everyone . Its always good to get an insight as to whether something like this is within the realms of normal (and, lets face it, you can hardly stop people in the street and ask them about their DC's bowel habits )

His poos are not particularly loose or foul smelling its just the sheer quantity and volume of them that I was concerned about

I imagine he is eating a little too much. DS2 often eats far too much pasta, and then sits on teh loo for 10 mins aftewards!!!

lol at cow pat! we get cow pat, or logs hehehehe

DD1 (3.6) has one at lunchtime and sometimes one at bedtime so 1-2 a day. She is a fussy, picky eater although eats a lot of fruit per day.

JKB - is it oily? That could mean he isn't absorbing his food very well.
