I’m in my 50’s. I’ve been having this pain for the past 5 days - it’s an ache a bit like a stitch, but sometimes more sudden sharp and then goes on a few hours.
Im generally fit and healthy -
don’t know what my question is really, just wondering what anyone has experienced something like this and will it go away?

Could be gallstones. That's where I used to get pain when I had them.

This.

I had my gallbladder out last year. I had intermittent severe pain lasting about 2 hours at a time, then it would ease off until the next time. Initially the attacks were a couple of months apart, ended up being about every 3 weeks. When they removed it, there was 200+ stones in there. The pain is normally under the ribs on the right hand side but asin my case can be more central.

The pain is horrific. I've not had kids so can't compare it to childbirth but the only pain I've had that was worse was a broken shoulder.

I agree probably gallstones. Ask your GP for a scan.

Thanks for all replies. Very consistent

I was wondering if it might be this. I’m asking cos I’m not very good at judging illness. The only thing is the pain is nothing like childbirth, although It’s worse today and I’ve taken painkillers.

Actually I’ve had to lie down.

I don’t know if it’s like childbirth as I’ve never experienced childbirth. A lot of people have described gallstones as worse….at least with childbirth you get a cute baby at the end!

tulips27 · 26/06/2022 21:48

I had a pain in my side when I had a kidney infection.

Spidey66 · 26/06/2022 21:49

Ps when I had an attack lying down was all I could do. It’s not like a headache or a period pain when a painkiller/fresh air/exercise can distract you. The pain is all consuming. You have to bare it out. Analgesia doesn’t work.

if it doesn’t wear off, your temp goes up or you look jaundiced go to a&e.

Does sound like gallstones. I had it on and off for years and just thought it was indigestion, and then it turned out to be gallstones. Try and work out any food that might trigger it - for me it was deep fried food, or food high in fat. You can get a scan to see if you have gallstones. i eventually had my gallbladder taken out after a few really painful episodes that I would say were on a par with childbirth 😩 .

Lower right side could it be appendix?

Could it be pneumonia?

I think a trip to the gp is in order.

Sounds like gallstones. Mine was a stitch like pain with sharp periods on the right hand side. Ask your gp for an ultrasound. You can manage it in the meantime by eating low fat diet

I was also going to say gallstones or kidney stones. But definitely go to the GP and get it checked out.
