Breast pain for months

My left breast has been painful for several months now.

The pain doesn't change with my cycle, i.e. doesn't get worse with my period.

It's a constant pain to the point I can't lay on that side at night.

I've tried changing my bras and being measured to make sure it wasn't a poorly fitting bra.

The breast looks normal, I can't feel any lumps or bumps.

I went to my GP who just said it was hormonal changes and told me to take paracetamol.

I just feel like there shouldn't be a constant pain.

Anyone have any similar experience with this?

For reference I'm 35 and I'm not on any hormonal contraception. I have one child who's 4.

I had this during my menopause and found that taking a starflower oil supplement daily helped hugely

only this year I had breast pain in right hand side. I was increasingly sick with worry and checking breasts all the time for any lumps, changes etc. Two weeks later I saw a nurse about something else and mentioned it. She said a gp would just tell me to take evening primrose oil. It actually helped within days and a few weeks later realised that I have no pain now. Amazed but it actually worked.

Evening primrose really does help , I take a high dose capsule every day. A breast clinic consultant at my local hospital recommended them .

I’ve had similar pain for around 2 months and saw a GP yesterday.

They examined both breasts and couldn’t feel any lumps. I was told that if there are no lumps present they should advise ibuprofen gel for 3-4 then refer to breast clinic if no improvement.

In my case they will refer after 2 weeks if no improvement due to a family history of breast cancer.

I'm 38 and on no hormonal contraceptives.

Definitely go back if no improvement after a couple of weeks and push for referral / further investigation.

I have the same. And have had for years. I thought I may be eligible for a scan as have a family history of breast cancer but actually the guidelines state that the first line is something like NSAIDs (ibuprofen etc) for 12 weeks and that you shouldn’t scan. It’s worrying isn’t it??

Bra day and night I was advised only comes off for a shower this is after the two week pathway. NO underwire

@greenbirdsong , ask to see a different GP. Although rare, it is possible that a tumour does not show as a lump or bump.

It may not be a tumour but it needs to be investigated

i went to gp with exactly same complaint, was scheduled for ultrasound and mammogram and had a cyst drained 2 weeks later. I’m 50 though, I wonder if that made a difference? I didn’t feel a lump but I guess the doctor thought it could be?

Hbh17 · 23/06/2022 13:51

I had this for years but usually only at night (no bra). I assumed it was just a normal thing to do with age & certainly never bothered a doctor. I notice it less now, so I guess I am getting "too old" for this to be an issue.
