swollen gland in dd's neck since christmas

my dd aged 7 was quite poorly over christmas, lethargic, slight temp, just generally under the weather. She is no longer presenting as poorly yet her glan in her neck is still prominantly raised, does anyone know what could be causing this? should I be acting on it or will it go down eventually on her own. I know gland s swell when an infection is being fought but as no apparent virus is present could this be something else, any advice would be gratefully received TIA.

Glands can take a few weeks to go down after an infection. Glands swell as lots of extra white blood cells are made and sit around in the glands. They can take a while to go away after an infection.

If it is causing her pain or she still has any other symptoms it may be worth being checked, if not I would wait another week maybe (if it was me).

OTOH, being a child you might want to check it sooner rather than later.

thanks SMS
my mum seems to remember a gland taking a while to go down before in my dd's neck, hence not acting on it sooner. my dd does say that it hurts her a bit, although as it is really quite swollen i think its more discomfort than actual pain.
