I am a week into taking 50mg Sertraline and tonight I was feeling constipated. I stupidly took some of my DC Picolsulfate (laxative) to ease it. I have just read after I had taken it that laxatives must not be taken with Sertraline! I am so stupid, I have health anxiety hence why I’m on the blinking tablets. Can anyone please let me know if I’m in doo doo? I feel such an idiot! I can feel myself spiriling into a panic attack!

I've absolutely no idea but if you ring a pharmacy they will put your mind at ease or tell you if you need to see a medical expert.

A pharmacist is the person to speak to.

I have genuinely never heard of Sertraline and a laxative being contra indicated!! I am a RN working in a care home and we definitely have residents taking sertraline and laxido/ movicol/ senna ….STOP WORRYING 💐

I've never heard this either and I've definitely been on sertraline and taken laxatives with the knowledge of doctors. While the laxative use was eating disorder related and therefore not great in itself, nobody ever flagged any potential risk with sertraline.

Thank you. I am struggling to get hold of a pharmacy that is open near me. I wasn’t told to not take them. I will stay away from Google. It was just an after thought and the first thing I saw was risk of death, I didn’t read anything after that. I also took the Sertraline about 9am so hopefully it isn’t as strong???? Hate HA!!!

It's only if taking both regularly that it can give low sodium levels. Don't worry at all.

I had a quick Google and it looks like laxatives can lower things like magnesium which can cause problems if you're on sertraline but I can't imagine occasional use of both is likely to cause that. Have a multi vitamin.
I'm not medically trained at all.

Thank you. I actually have some magnesium powder and use far too much salt on food. I am calming down now. Thanks guys 😃

Looks like Senna is the one to avoid www.drugs.com/drug-interactions/doculax-with-sertraline-924-8749-2057-0.html

www.drugs.com/drug-interactions/docuzen-with-sertraline-924-19228-2057-0.html

It has the same RARE side effect with a couple of other laxatives but I can't find any interaction with the one you've taken. 😊
