Bronchiectasis and asthma

Has anyone been diagnosed with bronchiectasis and asthma at the same time? Does having asthma increase the risk of getting bronchiectasis?
I have so far been diagnosed with asthma but keep getting recurrent infections (coughing up yellow mucus in the mornings) and worry if they can lead to more permanent lung damage over time.

I have both.
Asthma was diagnosed in my late 40s and mainly allergic / cough. Pretty certain it was triggered by a massive chest infection.
Over the next 20 years my cough got worse and my inhalers were increased. I had a few very bad infections. Eventually I was diagnosed with bronchiectasis.
Both my asthma and bronchiectasis symptoms have massively improved since I had covid, possibly due to the treatment I was given.

Oh I am so sorry you have been fighting this for so long! I am still struggling to accept that I developed asthma due to moving to the region full of trees I am allergic to.
You're such a strong person having these both life long deseases and not giving up!! ❤️
What was your asthma cough like before you developed bronchiectasis? And how different did it become with bronchiectasis, is it more purulent / mucosy? How frequent is it overall?

I have both, it's not super rare. They are quite treatable. Smile

Sorry to hear that you have a double burden from these lung conditions. How are you managing? Do you take AB often? And what prompted them to suspect bronchiectasis?
