Eyelid bump/lump? Help!

Yesterday I was rubbing my eyes and noticed a bump inside my right lower lid..it doesnt hurt, is quite hard, and its inside the lower lid, not on the surface. But when I flip my lid to look on the other side, I can see what looks like a fatty/clear bubbly lump.

What could it be? I'm panicking a bit, have chronic anxiety. I'm quite sure it wasn't there that long as I put on eye cream religiously and would have noticed it earlier I think...

Its not a stye, its not painful and seems more solid.

Could it be a build up of oil? I have very oily skin in general...but never had something like this.

Chalazion?

Mount2Climb · 09/06/2022 10:06

Blepharitis? please see an optician.

Yes I'm trying to book an appointment.

It doesn't seem like blepharitis...

Ohh I get these when my allergies are bad. I have to stop wearing my contact lenses because of them. Obviously go see an optician and get it checked even if it's just for your peace of mind

That's interesting, I do wear daily contact lens and have started suffering from dry eyes recently

I've had a cyst inside the lower eyelid removed and can sense it occasionally recurring. Tingling, pain down cheek, watery eyes. Also have blepharitis. Hot compresses and drops help reduce it.

ZenNudist · 09/06/2022 10:28

Blocked duct? You can get a warm compress and massage to release it.

lovingtheheat · 09/06/2022 10:30

Could be a stye. I had one last year on my upper lid. Went to opticians who confirmed and said to use a warm compress then lightly massage along the lid.

JolieJ · 09/06/2022 10:40

When I flip the lid I can see what looks like a yellowish mass protruding. Could that be blocked oil residue?

Managed to get an optician appointment for 1:45 today, hopefully I'll get some answers and peace of mind then

Yes. Sorry I should have added that I had a build up of oil somehow and it popped like a spot when optician massaged it out. I also wear contacts and have dry eyes. Hopefully all is ok with you op.

JolieJ · 09/06/2022 11:45

@lovingtheheat thank you that's very reassuring, it's most likely that due to contact lens and dry eyes and my overactive oily skin and glands. I'll update after the appointment :)

On another note, this may be the tipping point for me restarting my anxiety meds again...I had been doing okay without them for almost a year, seeing a therapist and trying to manage my health anxiety but as soon as something like this triggers it I just can't function. I'm not sure what the answer is but that's a whole separate issue!

So Optometrist had a look and he also said he thinks it's a chalazion, so basically a build up of oils due to a blocked gland.

He told me to buy a heating eye mask to use and then massage the spot and then wipe with a sterile eye wipe. I just did that and I noticed a tiny bit of bright yellow gunk on it so it must have worked. I'll keep doing this and see how it looks in a few days!
