Funny lump in breast - probably nothing but...

I know nothing about these things and am seeing the doctor later today to be on the safe side.

It's been there for a week and I thought it was just one of those lumpy under the skin spots that never breaks the skin and goes away of its own accord.

Unfortunately it's got bigger, is quite painful and the skin around it is bright red.

If it's not a spot or a cyst then what else could it be? I'm not worrying about it until someone tells me there is something to be concerned about but I think DH is conjuring up disaster scenarios in his head.

I got into a panic some years ago over something similar in my armpit. The doc gave me a thorough examination, both breasts and both armpits, and diagnosed an infection in a sweat gland or hair follicle. A course of antibiotics later and everything was fine again.

Hope that's all you'll need, too. Don't worry about it please, and definitely don't Google it yet!

Sorry, that comes across a bit abrupt. I meant to say that you are wise to suspend worrying about it for the time being.

Not much you can do about your dh until you've seen the dr.

Thanks PrettyCandles. I'm sure there's nothing really wrong and I haven't been anywhere near Google on purpose!

I didn't think your message was abrupt btw!

Does sound like folliculitis, just like pretty candles says, which can happen anywhere that hair grows, so all over your body, bar your palms.

It turned out to be a blocked milk duct. We're down to 2 feeds a day now so I guess I thought we were out of the woods on that score.

The doctor has given me some antibiotic cream which should sort it out and a prescription for antibiotic tablets if it doesn't.

Excellent

I agree with all that has been said, and would like to add that if it grows that quickly, and is red then it is more than likely to be an infection of some sort instead of something sinister.
