book for boys about growing up -any recommendations ?

Was just wondering whether anyone has any suggestions for a good,not too scary book suitable for my 10 yr old dealing with growing up - specifically puberty - you know the things I mean - cleaning yourself properly,willies etc...don't want to leave it all to dh to explain/demonstrate etc - have looked on Amazon but the ones available seem to be American and I'd prefer something a little less full on, iyswim-thanks !

If Diary of a Teenage Health Freak is still in print I believe that one is often recommended, but I like the look of this one Living with a Willy and Nick Fisher is a "safe pair of hands" nudge nudge, wink wink

hello Marina ! I'll check out the teenage health freak - was looking at the willy one on Amazon - just don't want to get into too much about sex/relationships - it's more about the physical care of the bod at the moment - I've intstructed ds on willy cleaning but don't want to be too hands on - he'llprobably be happier reading up for himself ! dh is a bit squeamish I think.

how old is/are your ds/s Marina ?

I have just had a look at the willy one and I think it will appeal to my DS age 11, single mum now so I know I will have to deal with most of these things, might just buy that one now. Getting the lets talk about sex one too, I will check it out then decide if he needs to read that right now.

I am not at all embarised (sp) or squeamish talking about things like this but as I don't have my own willy there is only so much I can tell him . I am dreading the wet dream bit starting. Advice I have had so far is box of tissues in his room and a liner in the bin .

oh God - hadn't even thought that far ahead...we talk about everything quite easily and ds will tell me things if he's worried,I'm sure. Will go and look in Waterstones shortly !

We have many converastions about, y'know, stuff, but DH is far too scared and I don't wan't it all to be from my (gender-biased) view point IYKWIM.

well I've been into town and looked in Waterstone's which had nothing, so went to independent bookshop which had the Nick Fisher book, but I think it may be a bit 'too much information' for him at the moment ..there was a book by a local author called 'Tweens' what to expect from- and how to survive- your child's pre-teen years - which might be good for me to read - so I bought it. Bookshop lady is going to ask the author what she'd recommend for ds...bookshop lady also has a ten yr old son and is interested in the subject too though also said she was trying not to think about it !

Usborne do a book for girls and one for boys

My son is ten but has always had a light moustache , which he is quite embarrassed about, though I ve always told him its nothing to worry about, but he does and he shaved it yesterday , I don't know how to explain to him to wait till he is older..

I've got 5 ds'. I've tried alot of books & they were all a waste of money. They have been influenced more by their talk in school and talking to their dad. If you talk to them about it they are more likely to be open when They've got a problem or need advice. As a mother you can still have that talk.
