Stomach pain like pins and needles - anyone else?

It's DS2 who has been having earache for a week, which is clearing up gently and not bothering him too much now.

Last night he said he has this pins and needles feeling in his stomach, no appetite, walks around a bit, hunched over. Felt a bit sick last night but that passed quickly.

It varies a bit in intensity. 8/10 down to 5/10, where 0/10 is pain free.

well it is now Wednesday. he started eating again on Monday. The pains just continued. So today I kept him on water, lucozade and coke. The pain level went down to 2 out of 10. I gave him a little bit of salmon this evening and bingo the pain went back to 6 out of 10.
What simple fact have i missed?

I am usually an ok nurse at home, my other son recovers from things quickly and so do.
