Blood pressure not responding to medication

Hi. I am overweight so am working on that to try and reduce blood pressure, but it runs in my family and has never been below 145/90 since I was 18 & first went on the contraceptive pill. It's stayed at that for 20 years, I was slim for most of that time.

I've suffered from alot of stress this past 2/3 years which I think has made it increase alongside putting weight on. Was then around 160/115.

Was put on 2.5, then 5 then 10mg ramipril ace inhibitor. It brought it down to around 145/90 again. No further.
Then put on amlodipine calcium channel blocker. Brought it down to 125/85 for the first couple of days. Now back up to 155/95!!
I'm finding the whole thing extremely frustrating. I respond to the medication initially within the first day then it goes back to what it was. I have read about the horrible side effects upping the dosage of the amlodipine can cause, I really don't want to take a higher dose. I haven't felt to bad but have been suffering from light headiness when bending over and also when I cough
What else can they give me? She's ringing for an update next week

I have been on Atenolol for years and BP very well controlled. I have had a very stressful year with elderly parents and it became raised in January. I was put on Amlodipine which was awful so am now on Candesartan 4mg which is a low dose and my BP is now in the 130/70 range.

Are you doing any exercise? I do a brisk walk of 30 minutes every other day really helps the stress.
