Sleep dep or something more sinister?

So, for the past two weeks, I've been feeling really lightheaded, woozy, and dizzy (are these all the same thing?) on and off. I thought this was likely due to the fact that I'm currently breastfeeding my 14wk baby every 40 minutes day and night, so severely sleep deprived and probably a bit low on juice in general. So I made a concerted effort to drink lots of water, eat lots more calories, have a berocca every day and rest as much as I can.

Didn't make a difference.

And now for the past few days, I've been feeling really nauseous as well as dizzy, and today I've had sharp, shooting pains in my stomach. I'm pretty emotional at the moment too, which I'm putting down to the sleep deprivation, and I'm starting to worry that I may actually be ill.

Do I need the GP? Or just more biscuits/a night in the Holiday Inn without the baby?

Felt a lot of weird symptoms when bf. Was deficient in vitamin d and anaemia - so worth getting checked out

MolliciousIntent · 29/05/2022 15:47

I'm taking vitamin d as supplements are recommended for BF mums, but the anaemia might be a good shout.. did have a monster steak last night and in general we eat a lot of red meat/leafy greens, but I suppose BF takes all the good stuff for the baby.

Thanks @Namechanger355 will try the GP tomorrow, though I reckon I'll get a bit of a brush off - need to decide whether I actually think there's something wrong so I know how hard to push.

Usually I've got great instincts for this stuff but my brain is so foggy at the mo.

I remember feeling like this. I introduced a bottle for the 10.30 feed - expressed for my first and formula for my second. I had a few hours ‘off’ that really worked for me. I was just depleted and overwhelmed!

I felt like this with both of mine at that age, I was anaemic with one and it was a lot worse that time round. Hope you feel better soon.

If you are drinking loads of water (and BF does make you really thirsty) you could be low on electrolytes. That made me feel seriously dizzy and ill once. I ended up eating spoonfuls of neat marmite to get enough salt back into my body. Make sure you have enough salt, iron, Vit D and take a post partum vitamin too. drink diluted juices or milk as well as water.

I felt like that when I was breast feeding and I was deficient in vitamin B12. May be worth seeing your GP. Hope all ok x
