Coughing: do you actually need to 'get it up' ?

I've got a nasty cold, more coughing than snotty. Also have asthma that doesn't generally affect me but is triggered by cold virus.

Yesterday I was moving around a lot and coughing a lot and needed to use my inhaler a lot. Today I've been taking it easy and haven't coughed as much nor used my inhaler as much. I can feel my breathing creak and rattle in my chest and I still feel as rough, but my head and ribs don't hurt as much.

DM is worrying about me. She says I've got to move around and cough to get all the phlegm up.

Is she right? Frankly I'd rather avoid that tightness and headache, not to mention the stress on my pelvic floor!

And while I'm asking, is there anything better than white toast with butter and Marmite when you're feeling grotty? (I doubt it!)
