colposcopy referral - has anyone EVER had an all-clear??

Smear was fine, so was internal scan, can't find out what came out from the swab until next week - but referred for colposcopy (letter arrived this morning).

Can all-clear be still possible, or does it always have to be serious??

Yes, me, twice - well once fvr dodgy smear then once for polyp. Try not to worry.

rosybud · 12/01/2008 17:08

Why are you being referred for a colposcopy? I had one after a dodgy smear and had to have a biopsy but all sorted easily. Hope yours is all good.

chiefcookandbottlewasher · 12/01/2008 17:09

I had a colposcopy a few years ago. Seems to me that the doctors were erring on the side of caution. Had an all clear and no trouble since. Good luck x

cece · 12/01/2008 17:12

Had one done years ago - no problems since. Had annual smears for 10 years and now back to every three years.

PurpleOne · 12/01/2008 22:21

I had one done also, got an all clear here too.

Please try not to worry too much!

Beauregard · 12/01/2008 22:22

An ex friend of mine(we lost touch) had this done and she was given the all clear.

lazarou · 12/01/2008 22:34

yes, i had one and then another, and was all ok

Gursky · 12/01/2008 22:36

Yes - I had colposcopy and then the all clear. Now on an annual smear for 10 years. It wasn't too bad - but quite weird to see my own cervix on a tv screen.

ConnorTraceptive · 12/01/2008 22:47

Had an abnormal smear last year and went for colposcopy and Dr said she could see absolutely nothing wrong at all.

poppy34 · 12/01/2008 22:49

yeah - went in and it was all clear

Lotstodo · 13/01/2008 09:26

Don't worry. As everyone has said there are lots of all clears after colposcopy (me too, twice). Did you say that your smear was not abnormal but you were still referred for colposcopy?

nightcat · 13/01/2008 10:02

thank you all, I feel slightly reassured.
Smear was fine, but I also had a swab done at the same time and haven't yet found out what exactly was discovered because the smear letter came back OK.
Will need to ring tomorrow to find out what exactly was in the swab.
The reason I had swab done was b/c I had a few bleeds out of sync in the last 18 months.
Thank you again, I was dreading a serious answer.

I've had one colposcopy, and been clear, sent for a colposcopy, but the DR couldn't see anything and decided (with me) not to perform it.

RachAndFamousNot · 13/01/2008 19:36

Hi, I had a colposcopy about 5 yrs ago. They found a high level of abnormal cells and took them off there and then with a hot loop (I believe). I had another smear after that which was fine, and all since then have been fine too. Even if they find something they have to remove, either then or later, there is still a very good chance you will be OK.
Hope everything OK for you.

Sixofone · 16/01/2008 21:24

I have had an all clear - had abnormal cells (HPV) which were removed with loop diathermy. Annual smear for 5 years, all of which were clear, now back to 3 years.

Abnormal cells aren't normally always 'bad'. I think of it, like, a verruca but just on my cervix - the cells have warped a bit but if it doesn't go away by itself (as warts and verucas can do) then you have it burnt off in the same way you do a wart.

So don't worry, it doesn't mean the worst even if it does show anything up!
