Any nurses out there? Wound care advice

I had two 4mm punch biopsies done on Friday and they covered the incision site with a waterproof dressing and told me to leave it on for 7 days until the stitches come out this coming Friday.
It's quite bloody underneath the dressing from the initial procedure and maybe I have laid on the stitch site in bed and it's bled a bit underneath.
Is it ok to leave this same bloody dressing on? It seems odd to keep a wound moist and air tight with a wet bloody dressing and not let the air get to it?
It feels fine and not sore. No redness.
Pic attached, sorry tmi 😬🤦🏻‍♀️

I wouldn't expect two punch biopsy wounds to look like that. Did they provide a you with another dressing? I'd be tempted to take that off and have a look underneath. Is there any odour or heat or anything like that?

No dressing to change it with just advises to keep on until Friday.
No odour that I can tell or heat and it doesn't feel sore.

I’m only a student nurse but I’ve just done a placement with lots of wound care. I would want that dressing to be kept clean. Could you speak to your practice nurse or 111 just for advice?

MrsPnut · 22/05/2022 19:00

The dressing needs changing, it was really poor of them not to provide you with a spare when the procedure was on Friday.
can you call your surgery in the morning and ask for an appointment with a
nurse or HCA, or at the least a spare dressing from their cupboard. Failing assistance from your surgery then you need to contact the place you had the biopsy and ask them to see you.

I’m not a nurse but I do have a long term wound (been dressing it since January) and know a fair amount about keeping it clean and safe.

MrsPnut · 22/05/2022 19:00

If you are near me then I have all the dressings and am happy to share.

Agree with this. A dressing in that condition will not do until Friday. That said, it's not an A&E job and can wait until the morning, particularly if there are no other obvious issues with it.

Scienceseeker · 22/05/2022 19:09

Agree with all of the above. I’d personally take that off asap.
Do you have anything at home you could cover it with tonight?

greenbananas29 · 22/05/2022 19:21

Thank you all for your advice, I peeled the dressing off and I'm going to cover it with a new one I have in the cupboard for tonight.
I'm assuming it won't matter what type of dressing I cover it with tonight?
Does it look ok?

Damon I don't have any dressings just a sterile gauze, can I use that and micro ore tape around the edges? How about a plaster over the top?

@greenbananas29 that will be fine.

MrsPnut · 22/05/2022 19:40

That looks fine as a wound and gauze with tape over will do for tonight.

pudseypie · 22/05/2022 19:48

Gauze and micropore tape will be fine i think. I have a deep open wound from surgery in March, and change the dressing myself in between nurse appointments this way. Nurses also often just put gauze and tape on mine.
