Every night my 3 year old son coughs and coughs, we have tried honey, simple linctus, hot water and lemon and absolutely nothing seems to be helping. Does anyone have any tips or hints I can try to ease his cough?

See a GP as he likely has asthma and will need Ventolin and possibly a preventer.

Could also be adenoids. Our GP suggested trying inhaler to help with night time coughing, and after no improvement eventually enlarged adenoids was diagnosed (and removed) by ENT.

It's such a shame listening to him coughing all night n nothing we're doing seems to be helping 😢 do you think out of hours could help?

How long has this been going on?

You could try a humidifier?

Have you changed the washing powered? Is it dusty? (No judgment!!)

How long has he been coughing? Days, weeks?

Is it any different to normal? Is he struggling for breath?
Pulling in at neck, stomach or chest?

It's been going on for quite a while, nothing is new, bedding changed regularly n room kept tidy. We've not long had a course of antibiotics which cleared his cough up before and now its back again, I really wish there was something I could do to help him tonight.

My son has asthma and it started when he was 1 year old. When he was bad I had a vicks beaker with a steamer. You add boiling water to the vicks and I held it for him to breathe in. He had inhalers from an early age and when particularly bad he was given steroids to help open up the lungs. His cough was worse at night.

Thanks @Mindymomo this definitely sounds like what my son has.
