Very random I know... but has anyone got one tonsil what's massive compared to the other one for no reason so no cause such as tonsillitis?

Yep. I always though everyone had one bigger until very recently!

Hello thankyou for the reply, my right tonsil is huge compared to my left! I do current have a sore throat viral infection, maybe it's come up because of that but I'm worrying it's actually usually that size already. But that's made me feel miles better thanks

Is it always bigger or has it come up?
If it’s new, please get it checked.
Asymmetric swellings should always be checked out, even if it’s not painful.
Not trying to scare you, but there’s a lot of things it could be.

See I'm unsure !! I've been to the doctors about it me and my daughter do have a viral infection, sore throat, cough, cold etc and she said even if your tonsil doesn't go down nothing to worry about but my anxiety makes me question it as usual

I had a permanently enlarged tonsil for years. I ended up having my them removed due to repeated tonsillitis.

mommaof1 · 20/05/2022 22:11

I used to get tonsillitis a lot, maybe because of that. I Google things and always scare myself, always come across things like tonsil cancer, maybe it'll go down when I've got rid of this viral thing, if not I'll know not to worry thankyou

Please try not to Google - it always comes out with the worse case scenario. I have been plagued with health anxiety but it has been so much better since I stopped Googling. I now ask my DH to google instead and he filters out the bad stuff!

Could be tonsil stones - maybe try prodding it a bit!

Katya213 · 20/05/2022 23:02

I used to work in ENT, most of the referrals were one enlarged tonsil, 99% of the time, it was nothing and the patients were sent on their merry way!

Hawkmoth · 20/05/2022 23:04

Yes. GP: I can't do anything about your anatomy.

Thanks mate, but stopped me fretting.

Mossstitch · 20/05/2022 23:05

My right one is huge (been quite handy actually for the regular PCRs I've been doing as in covid survey group). Been like that for at least 30 years that I can remember. I did used to get regular tonsillitis when young so don't know if something to do with that but not really for a long time. I presumed can't be anything important or I'd be dead by now 🤷
