Raised GGT - help!

Hi

For context I'm a 30 year old woman with a raised GGT of 68. I've had my blood test results by email which says this is abnormal but can't get a doctors appointment until mid June.

How concerned do I need to be about this?

Everything else came back in normal range.

Thank you!

What made you have the blood tests in the first place, what symptoms were you having and did the doctor give any inclination as to why they were doing them?

Thanks for coming back.

Due to night sweats, but I'm pretty sure it's alcohol related (the raised GGT) - just trying to proportionally worked out how much I've damaged my liver...Google is clear on what is normal, sub 30, but not clear what is horrific - e.g one of the searches that comes up is 'is 1000 bad for GGT' - so if the scale runs to higher than 1000 I think I'm not that concerned?

I'm no GP and maybe yours wants to run some additional tests to determine the cause? Are you on any medication or do you have any conditions which could affect the result?
Anything above 30 indicates that your liver isn't working the way it should and there's some damage. At 68 it's not normal. Could you safely cut down on the alcohol for a bit until you know? Must be worrying for you.

How did you get on OP? I know this is an old post but going through similar currently GGT has come back normal at 35 but normal range is 5-36 so I'm a bit concerned.

I wouldn't be worried. Mine got to 550 before the GP was even interested. It's not really an indication of much but it's used in conjunction with other results to establish what's going on. It's also higher if you've drunk alcohol. If all your other LFTs are fine then it's not going to be an issue.
