Would a temporary filling help?

Good morning Mumsnet.

I know nothing about teeth so if someone who does could give some advice I'd appreciate it. For the last few days I've had a dull ache in my tooth. I tired to look in my mouth last night and found a black mark/hole? Cavity?
Obviously called the dentist and they said they could get me in in july at the earliest. They suggested I go to the emergency dentist if it really hurt. Spent last night in a lot of pain, went to call the emergency dentist this morning and they're closed until Monday.

Should I buy some pain killers and wait until Monday? Buy a temporary filling and wait until July? Temporary filling and call Monday? Any ideas? I'm going on holiday next week and really want to enjoy it without this horrible pain.

I wouldn’t buy a temporary filling as you would be trapping the bad stuff in there surely. Make sure to keep your whole mouth clean, in particular the bad tooth. Wait and see what the dentist says on Monday and buy some pain killers if the pain is bad.
