Alternatives to dentures

My top canine tooth has disintegrated at the gum. It was heavily filled and my dentist had warned me it was on it's last legs'. I've always had rubbish teeth although I take a lot of care with them now, - I didn't as a child and my parents didn't bother as they both had dentures.

Apparently there's not enough viable root left for me to have a post and crown, and the teeth either side are not robust enough to support a bridge, so my only NHS option is to have a plate made with 1 tooth on it. It will cost me in the region of £280 (band 3)

My dentist said she could refer me to a private dentist to get an implant, but this would cost £ thousands.

So I've decided to go for the plate, but will have to wait 3 months for my first appointment and it will take up to 6 months before the denture is finished. Has anyone any ideas how I can disguise the gap as a temporary measure? You can get some kits off Amazon and make your own - has anyone tried these? What did you think of them?

That's way too long to wait! I am having an implant in the same place but got the partial denture within a couple of weeks. I did get used to the gap tho.
