Is the wait for results the same?

I've had an ultrasound done last week. It took forever with the sonographer frowning and asking me to take different positions as if she was looking for something. Also asked questions that seemed unrelated e.g. do you get lots of UTIs when the ultrasound was not related to bladder etc.

So that got me worried.

She said the results will be 1-2 weeks. Do results get expedited if there's a concern or are they always the same timeline regardless of what is found d or not found?

Thanks!

I had a ct scan to see if I was still in remission 8 weeks ago and still not heard.

@Coffeeonadrip experiencing something similar waiting for ultrasound results. Did you hear back? Hope all okay.

PortalooSunset · 08/08/2022 23:15

The sonographer's job is literally to look for something! Doesn't mean they found anything that wasn't supposed to be there. I've had a few over the last year or so. One gave me a verbal "no obvious lumps or bumps", one said they couldn't say and I'd hear from the doc when they got the report.
The only time I heard back quickly was after a CT, had been told 2 weeks or so but within 48 hours I'd had an "all clear" message.
Think it's the luck of the draw as to how quickly things are reviewed by eg consultant radiologist and then how quick ordering doctor reviews that report and contacts you.
Hope all is OK.

@PortalooSunset Thank you so much for replying. So have radiologists not given you ultrasound results even when things are okay? I’m 7 weeks pregnant and it’s just sending my anxiety through the roof as just have always been told there and then if things are okay.

Totoro1234 · 09/08/2022 05:21

@PortalooSunset *not given you results straight away whilst you’re there I mean- sorry.

PortalooSunset · 09/08/2022 16:00

Ah bless you @Totoro1234 , none of mine have been pregnancy related so I can see why you'd be extra anxious!
Yes, you're right. The one where I got the verbal result I was actually scanned by the consultant radiologist with a special interest in the liver, which was what I was being scanned for. He had a student with him who he was explaining things to so obviously I was listening to that and asking questions as well. I don't know if he'd have told me what he did had the student not been there.

The other one was 'just' a sonographer for a gynae scan. She told me that she was qualified to look, take measurements etc but that it wasn't her place to interpret things. There wasn't anything spectacularly untoward though (slight thickening of endometrium which was unexpected as I'm post-menopause). Think it was maybe a couple of weeks after that I got the letter?

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Hope you hear soon.

@PortalooSunset thank-you for replying 💕. The scan wasn’t actually pregnancy related- I’m on a genetic screening programme and am monitored with annual scans. Just to add to the early pregnancy anxiety!!! The person that did the scan was just very short with me when I asked any questions and it’s frustrating how some give you results and others don’t- immediately start questioning if something is wrong!! I called the consultant today and left a message asking for the results so hopefully I hear soon. Feeling a bit calmer than yesterday! Thanks again for responding.
