Sinusitis - how long before going to GP?

I've had a blocked nose, headache, sore throat, occasional feverishness for 2.5wks now. I suspect it's sinusitis because of the headache and heavy feeling in my head/face.

It doesn't seem to be getting any better. Couple of years ago I got given antibiotics due to sinus infection when I started getting a rotting smell in my nose, sorry tmi! I haven't had that yet, but i'm getting really fed up with feeling ill. I've had this a few weeks ago too on the back of covid which also had similar symptoms, so feel like this has been going on since March!

Will a GP to do anything? I've tried painkillers, nasal sprays etc etc

Hi Data did you go to the GP and did they help? Watching with interest because I have the same thing, it's been a week now but I will prob wait til 10 days before trying the GP ....

Hi, maybe silly suggestion but assume all the OTC sinus tablets have been tried? I used to get sinusitis regularly and quite badly when I was little - ended up with ear infection and antibiotics to clear it. Last few years as soon as the heavy head starts I'd get sinus tabs and after a day or 2 everything eases off. Not sure if just lucky but has done the trick for me.

My DH has had a sinus infection took for ages.....like 2 years. He lost his sense of smell but put that down to prob having Covid (before tests were freely available)

It wasn't bad enough to do anything about until the last 3 months or so when he simply cannot clear his nose and it's painful. Finally went to see a doc who said it was a really serious bout of sinusitis and prescribed sprays/ antibiotics etc etc.

1 week later and he's a lot better but still not right. The worst thing is he still cannot clear his nose properly, and the constant need to blow it. It also makes him incredibly nasally at night when sleeping (so has affected my sleep too).

I think he'll need to go back to docs for more sprays and poss more antibiotics.

So basically, don't delay and get seen before it gets worse.

Have you tried Beconase nasal spray? They're really reluctant to give anti biotics for sinusitis ime unless you have a temperature.

I second the nasal spray. Worked much better for me than antibiotics so defo worth a try

Definitely go to the doctor.

Definitely go to the doctor. I struggled on with sinusitis. Left it longer than I should have to go to doctor’s. Antibiotics helped when I finally went… but I do have chronic rhinosinisitus now.
