Need to get a thorough eye test, not a cheapie at SpecSavers.

Can anyone recommend a good opthalmologist in central London (eg: Harley St)?

actually harley st opthamologists are dogshit. you need a big branch of a big chain. they have the most up to date equipment and excellent recently trained proper staff, not some old codger who qualified in 1980 and hasn't had a new machine since 1998

and if you need any further investigations, they will tell you, and send you to moorfields.

vision express spotted my SILs toxoplasmosis at an early stage btw. v impressive.
