Severe Trapped Wind During Ovulation-Really Painful

wondering what I can do with my diet to help with this. the pain comes on suddenly around ovulation time.

Lasts for about 15-30 minutes when it is really excrutiating, it's basically trapped wind!!

should I be quitting potatoes milk and a whole lots of other foods? or is there a herbal tea I should drink everyday. I really don't want to deal with this monthly!! thanks

I have the same thing, except it's lasted over 24 hours this time, whereas usually its just a few.
I was sure i had a UTI but GP confirmed its not and said it really could just be trapped wind.
I'm on the andrews salts now which i think is helping... will get some Buscopan im the morning as suggested by GP. Acoiding booze, coffee, acidic things and fatty things. All the good stuff Grin

buscopan every time. It helps with period cramps as well, in fact used to be sold for that.

godmum56 · 17/05/2022 22:58

oh PS, I find that peppermint or ginger tea helps as well

HorribleHerstory · 17/05/2022 22:58

Are you sure it’s trapped wind? Not mittelschmerz?

Yamyam13 · 18/05/2022 07:43

@HorribleHerstory I usually get mittelschmerz, pretty badly, and this definitely started with that but developed into trapped wind, feeling a lot better today.
Apparently ovulation hormones do slow down digestive system so it makes sense?
I had a busy weekend with booze & lots of food so i think the timing of that with Ovulation on the monday morning led to a severe case of mittelschmerz meets trapped wind. Off to buy Buscopan!

thanks all. @HorribleHerstory that' what the GP said a few years ago as Mittelshmerz. afterwards I realised mittelshmerz feels different like adull ache on the side. or both sides. this pain is so bad its like a long contraction for 15-20 minutes and I have to sit down.....and go pale

I started getting this when I came off the pill and actually went to A&E the first time because I was bent double and couldn't straighten up without severe pain. They concluded it was the cyst that forms around the egg bursting and releasing fluid which makes you feel bloated and causes the pain. For me it felt like wind and my stomach blew up but farting didn't relieve it. I've only had it that severely once since but at least I know its not my appendix or anything now when it does happen.

You could try seed cycling (just google it)
And make sure you're getting your vitamin B4 i think it is.
All supposed to help with general menstrual health, cycles, pmt etc.

Just wanted to follow up incase anyone ever comes across this thread and it' useful for them.

I started bleeding again 2 days after the severe 'gas' - I was shocked as I'd only just finished a period the week before.
So I decided to book a private gynaecologist.
I went today, after the bleeding had lasted a week, and she did a scan and diagnosed that it was ruptured ovarian cyst. Which explains the extreme pain, sudden irregular periods, extreme bloating etc. See link for list of symptoms.

www.nhs.uk/conditions/ovarian-cyst/

And the GP fobbed me off as just having gas despite me listing most of these symptoms.

mumznet · 27/05/2022 19:40

@Yamyam13 sorry to hear. is there treatment for this or just painkillers?

OP posts:
Yamyam13 · 28/05/2022 07:51

In my case, where they are confident the cyst is shrinking on its own and is not a size of concern, just pain killers and i will go back in a few months for another scan.

mumznet · 02/09/2022 22:41

@Yamyam13 hope all is well did you go back for another scan? you mentioned that this pain was a ruptured ovarian cyst, could this be the cysts that people have with PCOS. GP did years ago tell me that they can see that I have cysts on my scan and I have PCOS but not symptoms of it.

I havent made it back for the follow up appointment due to being away ans other reasons, but thankfully no more issues.
I will go once term starts and things settle down here.
I don't have PCOS - due to secondary infertility I've had numerous investigations and no PCOS ever mentioned, and no symptoms.
Thanks for checking back in. Hope you're ok
