Advice please - 4 year old with thrush?, spotty bottom and swollen nose?

My daughter has been ill recently with cough, cold, sickness things. About two weeks ago she started saying her "fanny" hurt, it was very red and I noticed some discharge in her pants (sorry too much detail). The GP said it is just thrush from being run down. She has also had angry spots (with white heads) on her bottom. I have been putting canesten on for the last 10 days, with no improvement.

This morning she woke up with a really swollen nose (the end) which is very red and is very upset and emotional. She has a slight cold, but very minor.

Could the three symptoms be related? Any suggestions? I am trying to get a GP appointment, but I suspect the GP will say it is being run down.

DId you try NHS direct website with the symptoms?

Thanks for the suggestion, but I can't really find a link to the symptoms.

Phone the docs and tell them she is no better and you are worried. They will have to see her.

I have no medical knowledge but may be a virus of some sort - did the GP say whether or not she could take any childrens painkillers?

If it is thrush you will probably want to steer clear of antibiotics anyway, because they can actually give people yeast infections.

Definitely see the gp and even if he does say she is simply run down ask if there is anything else she can take to relieve the symptoms. Poor wee thing! Hope you get an answer [smile}

Thanks for your advise. I have an appointment for her tomorrow - will let you know what they say.

My DD had thrush when she was first born. GP prescribed nystatin which didn't really help. I actually found that GSE ( grapefruitseed extract from health food shop worked best.
Once you have killed the thrush ( which is yeast infection) get her on some pro biotics to stop it coming back. Again health food shop can help. Powders from chilled cabinet ( ABCdophillus for example are best - not yogurt drinks from supermarket which are shit)

Melissa, what did the doc say?

Hi Sorry, I have not posted. It has all been abit traumatic, and not really sure what has happened over the last few days... Basically, on Friday I took her to a private GP (as could not get an appt at our NHS GP... and was really worried). Her nose by Friday was what can only be described as a bloody and puss covered mess - it looked purple underneath. The minute the doctor saw her they said it was a very serious strep infection, highly contagious, and she is on v strong antibiotics- orally and cream, and us, and her brother... Her vagina when examined was red and raw internally (how awful did I feel for not taking her sooner). This all hapened on her 4th birthday. The great news is that her nose has dramatically improved and spots etc are going. We have to go back tomorrow and then next week.

The hospital were horrifed that despite going back twice to our GP she misdiagnosed thrush.

Has anyone had similar experience with the nose situation and a strep infection?
