Brain scan results

Hi guys, so my mums been smelling weird smells for months. Almost like a sweet chemical smell. No real consistent symptoms other than that. We wondered if it was a long covid thing but the doctors sent her for a brain scan. Her results are in but they couldn't get her an appointment to discuss it until the week after next. Anyway theyve just called back and said they're overriding the system and are calling her on tuesday. This has spooked us because if it isnt serious why would they override the system?? So now we have to wait over the bank holiday weekend to find out.
If it was something really bad would they call her or ask her to book an appointment in person? I dont know what they could have found other than a brain tumour or something else bad if they want to talk to her and have overridden the system to talk to her sooner. It has taken 2 weeks for her to get her results which I feel could be a good sign but the fact they want to speak to her and have put it in for her to be seen sooner is really freaking me out. Any experience/answers to any of my questions? I'll be a wreck until Tuesday. I'm a big worrier anyway but this is my mum so I'm beside myself X

Hi OP
This could be a number of things and not necessarily serious. Phantosmia has many outcomes. Understandably you're worried of course and at least your mum is being seen soon to rule out anything serious. Try and enjoy the bank holiday. Hope all goes well.

Thank you. I always assume the worst, it's my least favourite trait about myself!

I was telephoned after a brain scan, it wasn't all clear but it wasn't a brain tumour either. It flagged something but a minor issue rather than an major one. It could be something like that.

I currently have unrelated cancer and for that each time I am called to the hospital in person, not sure if that is significant but I think generally worst results are given in person in hospital. Hope its OK news.

Thanks so much @Silkierabbit that's really reassuring. I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis though. Stay well and strong, you can beat this ❤

Hi even if it is a brain tumour they're not necessarily cancerous or requiring urgent treatment. I had a phone call a week after a brain scan and it was a meningioma. They initially opted to watch and wait with further scans then operated 9 months later. That was 4 years ago and I'm fine now.

Thanks so much @Mistymountain that's helpful too. I think it's the not knowing that's the worst!
