Sleep deprived EEG. Anyone any experience?

DS1 has been referred for a sleep deprived EEG to try to get to the bottom of his night time seizures/other strange awakenings.

We haven't had the date or time through yet,but imagine that we are going to have to keep him awake in the early hours. Anyone had to do this and any tips!!

yes - f*ing nightmare. Sorry but it was. Although my DS has ASD so less 'helpful' than other children.
My strongest recommendation is that you be very assertive when you get there. We turned up with knackered sleepy child and they expected us to sit with him in a hot waiting room and keep him awake for another hour while they faffed about. I had to tell them to do it then or set up another appointment.

As far as other tips go.
I would prepare your DS for the fact that they will put things all over his head. My DS was very alarmed but would have coped better if i had been able to pre-warn him.
Make sure that you have arrangements home thought through as once testing is over after 1 hour your child will most likely not wake up to head home and will need to be lifted/carried.

fatzakhal how old is your ds.
My dd had a eeg on thursday but not a sleep deprived EEG.She is also 17yrs so old enought to know what was happening. It takes a long time for them to put all the wires on,about half an hour or so.

He's 4 but fortunately has had a non sleepy one done before so does know what will happen. It's sods law isn't it that nothing will happen whilst we are there!

Pagwatch, will remember that about not being seen straight away , that's ridiculous isn't it? It's the keeping him awake in the car on the way there that will be a nightmare! I have visions of sitting in the back with him squirting him with water or something to keep him awake
