Me, DH and dd have all had ?flu virus over xmas and still have nasty phlegmy coughs esp in a morning. DD has thrown up some mornings b4 school. She hardly coughs after school and not at all at night. I know it is not a chest infection as no temp, it is that postnasal drip I am sure in a morning.
Just wondering how long everyone else post viral cough is lasting. It has been 2.5 wks. I even feel horrible sending her to school in case she is sick after coughing bout.

mine is very much like yours after nearly three weeks. DP and DD seem to have recovered though. Which only goes to show how much more restful their lives are than mine

emandjules - my dd1 has been coughing for about 6 weeks. Coughs a lot at night and is sometimes sick (phlegm) in the morning. By the afternoon she is not coughing so much. I've been on the verge of the going to gp several times as she has bad patches when is really tired and refuses to eat. However she really does seem to be on the mend now ..... getting very bossy again!

dividedselfridgesxmaswindow · 10/01/2008 09:36

6 weeks and counting for me - the dc had them for around 8 weeks

Jacksmybaby · 10/01/2008 09:49

DS has been coughing 7 weeks and counting. He's on his second round of antibiotics for chest infection. Plus ventolin which is a joy to administer! Not sure why you say it's not an infection if there's no temp emandjules, as DS hasn't had temp! Think NHS direct website says coughs should be checked out if it's been more than 3 weeks. Hope u all better soon.

katylou25 · 10/01/2008 10:50

DS2 also on his 2nd type of antibiotics for chest infection - he's not got a temp either - was told off by docs yesterday for not brinign him in again sooner ( 1st lot of ab's was before christmas) as if he'd been any worse chest wise would have needed IV antibiotics - he's 16 months and has been coughing - v bad in evenings thorugh the night and mornings, often making himself sick - but seems to be fine, happy and playful and full of energy in himself.

nodder · 10/01/2008 11:04

Well I have had a chest infection, lots of ab's, and have been coughing for 6 weeks and counting It is driving me nuts.

nodder · 10/01/2008 11:04

that should say 3 lots of ab's.

Niecie · 10/01/2008 11:08

The DD of a friend of mine was much the same although she threw up her tea every night after bed due to phlegm. The doctor told them that it can last 6 weeks. I read in the paper yesterday that 2 months is not unusual.

DS has developed a cough and cold this week so we have only just started on this. He should be clear by Easter at this rate.

Marne · 10/01/2008 11:08

I have had it on and off for 2 months, i think my boss is getting fed up with me phoning in sick but it seems to go for a few days and them come back.

Dd1 had anti-b's last month but is cheasty again

I just wish i could find something to clear my nose, i'm fed up of talking like i have a peg on my nose

Marne I am the same had this for nearly 6 weeks some days I feel better than others, I'm on another downer at the moment ! The cough for me is bad in the Morning, leading to me throwing up and when I lay down at night I gets nasty again too, still coughing during the day but not so bad. Anyone's voice keep coming and going? I have been croaky for 6 weeks too, went to doctor at the start of this and he said I had Tracheaitis (Croup) to me and you, but was not on my chest just stuck in the wind pipe area ! but now I'm sure it has gone to my chest and it sounds very unattractive when I cough so much I choak ! Mental note if this continues beyond week 10 I go back to the doctors LOL !!!!!

My ribs are so sore from all the coughing it feels as if I have had a good kicking! Dusty areas and cold areas are the worst. I am back at work, I try to only go the photocopying room once a day, as it the worst place in the world.

nodder · 10/01/2008 22:22

for dust.

Cremolafoam · 10/01/2008 22:33

what is anyone giving the dc for the cough? i can hear dd 12 coughing away in bed. benelyn is doing no good at all- any one tried something with success?
i feel so bad for her- this is the 3 rd week. GP says it is not anything he can treat. but she can't seem to get over to sleep.

Jacksmybaby · 11/01/2008 08:16

Aside from the prescribed drugs, vicks vaporub and the plug-in vaporisers (we have the calpol one) seem to help a bit.
Someone on another thread said that putting your steam steriliser (if you have one) on in the DC's room without lid, ie to let the steam out into the room, helps.
