New 5 in 1 jab: anyone declined?

I know. I know. This vaccine debate has been done so many times. But, since I'm pregnant, Ive been starting to think about what to do with the new 5 in 1 which I think is on offer at 2, 3, and 4 months.

Has anyone not gotten it? If so, why? Did you go for singles (if you could find them)?

Very much interested in any and all opinions.

Hiya - my ds had his two weeks ago. His first two lots of vaccs were the normal ones with the oral polio but his last set was the whole lot in one vacc. With his first two lots he had a reaction in his leg where a big lump came up (dd had the same thing as well) but this time he was fine!! I read all the leaflets etc but didn't really find a reason not to go ahead, although to be honest I wish they would stop messing everything around, it's such a difficult thing making all these decisions for your poor helpless baby!

ds had his first lot of 1-in-5 a few weeks ago. so far he's happy as
not much help I know. Still going to do singles for mmr though

i don't think that single jab tetanus is available at all (think jimjams has posted previously on this)

probably no consolation but the 5 in 1 isn't really any worse than the previous regime, which, in practice was 3 in 1, hib, and polio drops given within a 5 minute time interval - so just as many different diseases hitting a babies system virtually simultaneously. and at least the 5 in 1 doesn't have mercury in.

my dd had the old style jabs at 2 months and was a nightmare to settle afterwards... awake all day and screaming! She then had the 5 in 1 for the next two - lat one onyl last week, and has been fantastic afterwards... although she screamed the surgery down when it was done, she was quiet within a few minutes and was her usual self... definately prefered the 5 in 1!!!

will probably be having baby jabs done for #3, but will have them more spaced out again.

I haven't given anything to ds2 and ds3 won't be getting them. DS1 won't be getting any boosters. I think your choice is basically all or nothing. You could try and get infanrix but I'm not sure there would be any advantage. The single tetanus may still be around in places but contains thimerosil (which imo is probably more risky for a baby than giving a 5 in 1- that would change as the child got older and mercury was less of a problem).

A fantastic book is Randall Neudstaedter The Vaccination Guide- available on Amazon. He references everything well and kind of spells out the risk/benefit ratio of vaccinating and not vaccinating. If you're undecided I'd recommend it - it's the most balanced book I've read.
