Neck lump and 2 week pathway

Not sure what I'm looking for from this post, just somewhere to get things off my mind.
Saw GP today about a swelling/lump on the side of my neck that's grown over the last 6 weeks or so.
I've been trying to figure out if it's really there or it's me thinking there's something.
Didn't say a great deal to confirm that he could feel anything, had a feel and then asked me to point to where I thought it was.
Then said as he couldn't organise a scan directly his only option was to refer me on the 2 week pathway.
Said it would be treated as a potential cancer referral but that was the only option to get it looked at.
So I'm not sure if he thought it was something or not.
Then got a call this evening from the local hospital to confirm an appointment for next week, don't know if I should feel lucky getting seen this quickly or worried its happened this quickly, was expecting to maybe hear about an appointment in the next 2 weeks but could be longer with the current backlog I expect they have.
Until this morning I wasn't even sure about going to the GP.

I is a normal pathway for unexplained lumps and bumps, and the speed of the appointment is normal for a two week pathway referral. GPs are very reluctant to say whether or not they think something is cancer so refer on to the experts.
